[Bass of the week] Watterson Guitars Ketos

Recently, we asked those who have bought stuff from BBG to post a photo of what they have installed in their bass, and many of you replied with some great photos. (You can also post your own photos there if you like!)

One bass stood out in particular because it has some hardware in it not seen all that often, the Watterson Guitars Ketos, seen above.

The hardware we’re talking about isn’t the bridge, but rather the Seymour Duncan Ripper pickup set. This pickup set is specifically made for the Gibson Ripper bass guitar from the 1970s, and that’s why these pickups aren’t seen too often. (And to see them housed in a non-Ripper model is definitely different!)

Do the Ripper pickups sound good?

Yes, they do, and you can hear a demo of what they sound like in Gibson Ripper basses below (both fretless AND fretted!) As your ears will tell you, the Ripper pickups have a great sound to them. In addition, the bassist in the video also explains the story of why the pickups exist in the first place, and also gives some important information if you’d like to order up a set for yourself.
