Some of you guys and gals out there have straps that are really old where the strap button holes are stretched so far that it barely holds on to the instrument.
And yeah, I totally understand why you keep your old crappy strap. It’s comfortable. And no, I’m not telling you to get a new one because I know you totally love that old beat-up strap you have. It’s kind of the same feeling you get from a worn-in baseball glove or your favorite sweater. I get that.
Somewhere along the line, the strap button hole is going to get so stretched that it will threaten to drop your bass. And of course, Murphy’s Law will kick in and it will happen right in the middle of a gig.
Fortunately for you, there’s a cheap “field repair” you can use, and that’s the rubber washer. But where can you get a rubber washer in the middle of a gig?
From the bar.
Order up one of these:

Take off the rubber washer from the cap, then do this:

Problem solved.
And no, it doesn’t matter if you place it before or after the strap. But generally speaking it’s easier to deal with if you place it after the strap because it acts like a strap lock at that point.
Yeah, this will be the most expensive rubber washer you ever bought. But hey, it works.
