Looking for a set of humbuckers…. what are the thoughts about getting the best and biggest sound?
I want to custom a jazz bass into a mudbucker Jazz Bass like Mel Schacher from Grand Funk Railroad played that gave that awesome overdriven tone on their early to mid recordings. I already have an Altec Sidewinder pickup that is legit, testing with 29.8k output resistance. I need to upgrade the potentiometers, and perhaps add a Gibson varitone switch so the Sidewinder p/u doesn’t cancel out the much weaker 8k output res jazz bridge pick up, causing unwanted tone killing hum. I have a decent Fender Squier Jazz bass, with a high mass bridge, pearloid pickguard, and a 70’s styled neck with pearloid inlays.
