"The Impression That I Get" Cover (because ska is awesome)

While we rattled off 5 cool bass lines of the 90’s here, another band that had some great hits with great bass lines was The Mighty Mighty Bosstones with their song The Impression That I Get.

The verse bass line is definitely one of the coolest out there. It’s involved-yet-not-too-involved, has a great groove to it, and all you need is a 4-string.

To note: Generally speaking, ska music on bass requires an “even” sound, meaning it is best to try and get all your notes to have the same volume since there’s so much instrumentation going on as you are ordinarily playing with a horn section. What can help is using pickups that promote a “hot modern” tone (Aguilar makes a few, as does Delano among others) however the compressor will probably be your best friend here.

What do you think? Is ska cool or what? 🙂
