This week’s feature bass has a fingerboard with a contrasting wood species for the octave frets.
Builder Ben Bartlett writes:
I built this bass for someone who bought one of my last basses. It has an ebony fretboard with American holly on the 12th and 24th frets. The pickups are Nordstrand Big Splits. The preamp is a Mike Pope Flexcore, Bridge Volume/Master Tone stacked, Neck Volume control, Treble/Bass stacked, Hi Mid control, Lo Mid control, Active/Passive toggle switch. The tuners and Bridge are Hipshot. It has a Hotrod Dual action truss Rod and a custom made brass nut. 35″ scale. The top wood is Cocobolo with a Mahogany core and maple back. The neck is Wenge, Purpleheart and Flame Maple.

Well done, Ben!

Gorgeous! It’s piece of art. Wouild love to “hear” it…
Thanks , I think it sounds better than it looks!
Really? Any chance we could get some wavs on soundlcoud or something? Maybe go direct into an M5 go big 192 for nuance and tonal characteristics and just raw playing? If you in Chicagoland area I’ll do it for free in my studio. 🙂 Really wanna hear it almost what I would do to a bass if I could afford custom.
I try to get a sound clip done this weekend.
I will try to get a sound clip out this weekend.

Great looking instrument and some fantastic tone woods!
Thanks
I’m guessing 12 pounds…
A little high with your guess. Put it this way, I’ve had EBMM basses that were heavier.
Peace
A beautiful piece of art, wood, form and function well done!!!
That purple heart sure has some beautiful colour! I’m currently building myself a bass – not nearly this fancy!
Amazing work, I’d love to talk with the builder about quotes
