[Bass of the week] Darryl Cameron 1612

The feature bass this week was built as a gift, and what a nice gift it is.

Builder Darryl Cameron writes:

This bass was built as a Christmas present for a friend. She has played bass for years and I wanted to build a bass so this is the end result. It is a neck through design with an obvious Ibanez SR styling to it. The neck is laminated maple and walnut with a walnut headstock veneer. The fingerboard is inlayed with mother of pearl butterflies and crushed stone accents and lines. The body wings are made from layered mahogany, maple, wenge, maple, and finally walnut on top. The hardware is an aluminum Hipshot AStyle 4String bridge, Hipshot Ultralite Tuners, Nordstrand Big Single 4 String Single Coil pickups, and an Aguilar OBP-3 pre-amp (2-Pickup 5-Knob 2-Switch 3-Band Vol – Bl – Mid – Treb – Bass – Mid Sw – A/P Sw).

Well done!

  1. Wow, that bass is beautiful! That was one hell of a present. I wish somebody would give ME a birthday present as gorgeous as that one.

  2. Darryl absolutely AWESOME! I usually don’t comment being the novice I am, but this bass is beautiful, because it is simplistic in it’s design, but exotic with the use of woods it is made of. I have a Peavey Cirrus with a similar look. Many of the basses shown here have such unique presence. I just look in awe and read the comments.

  3. I usually don’t comment either, but that is one snazzy Ibby-like bass! If I had mad skillz like that I wouldn’t need to buy basses anymore.
