[Bass of the Week] Rodriguez 6 String Bass

See the business listing for this bass builder here

This week’s bass guitar of the week is a 35-inch scale 6-string lightweight at only 8.5lbs (3.85kg).

Builder Thomas Rodriguez from Rodriguez Guitars writes:

I specialize in classical guitars but I got my start making electric guitars & basses, I still make electrics when time permits.

This bass was a commission for a customer that wanted a lightweight 35″ scale 6 string with a 12 fret neck joint.

The body and neck are Korina , birdseye maple and walnut, the fingerboard is Honduras rosewood.

The pickups are my own design, I made the bobbins and the covers and had Lindy Fralin wind them for me.

It has a Bartolini preamp and Hipshot hardware with Piezo saddles.

The neck has 2 truss rods, made in shop, and a carbon fiber rod reinforcing where the neck meets the body.

The body design is my own, designed for balance and comfort, the total weight is about 8.5 lbs.

  1. We need more companies on-board with building lighter basses! Especially, Warwick and Musicman. Who the heck wants 12 pounds hangin’ around their neck for 3-4 sets?? Not me!! But COOL bass!!

  2. 5-piece capilary singlecut at 8.5lbs. Interesting choice of tuners. Plenty of tone choices. Like what he did with the fret markers. Looks like 19mm spacing, great for slapping. Well done all around.
