[Bass of the Week] Stonecross 1504

See the business listing for this bass builder here

This week’s feature bass is one excellent looking piece of Buckeye Burl wood, along with several other beautiful woods.

Builder Chuck Phares from www.stonecrossguitars.com writes:

I have been building custom 6-String guitars for the past 2 years and decided to give a bass a shot. Hooked up with one of the best tone wood suppliers that had a beautiful piece of Buckeye Burl and decided it would marry very well with a bass guitar. A good friend of mine has been bugging me to build him a one for the past 15 years, so “There You Go Buddy!!”. The body consists of Buckeye Burl, Mahogany Band, and Swamp Ash…The neck is a beautiful Laminated Tiger Stripe Maple with Snakewood Stripes and the fretboard is a hand selected Waterfall Birdseye Maple…

Hardware is EMG PJX Jazz Pickups, EMG BQS EQ Control Setup, a Babicz Full Contact Bridge, and Hipshot Locking Tuning Keys…Added the DR Black Beauty Strings for color enhancement and playability…Plays and Sounds Like A Dream!!

  1. Can’t wait to see a second try at a Bass this is awesome! Only a few things I would have have done differently, I would move the strap around the the horn to get better leverage so you get less pressure on the screw and the two top neck bolts I’d would have tried to space differently or just used five bolts instead I can just see the wood around them cracking.. Maybe I’m paranoid but I sure is hell would buy this bass either way it’s a peace of art!

  3. What a beautifully crafted instrument! Is that the actual color of the buckeye burl? Is that two neck reinforcement rods and the truss rod at the end of the fretboard?
    11/10!!!
