Crowdfunded pink bass upgrade of awesomeness

An email from a customer arrived recently expressing gratitude that we were able to help out with a bass upgrade. It is not uncommon that we receive emails like this, but what made this one particularly special is how the upgrade happened.

(The author wished to keep the names anonymous. Names have been changed.)

Pink Bass Player is pretty iconic in Yuma, Arizona. In addition to being an outstanding young bassist, she is an all around great person. She has been a member of the community honor jazz band, a touring country band, and a private bass lesson teacher since she was a freshman in high school (all of this in addition to being the top student in her class). She mentioned at one point that she was looking to upgrade her bass, but was going to have to save up for quite a while before doing so. When I heard about this I let the guys and girls of the band know: it was time to do something for our bassist! So, in celebration of three years of commitment to the group and her recent acceptance into college for her dream program, everyone in the band pitched in and decided to get her the best pickups money could buy. That’s where Best Bass Gear comes in. The pickups came in quickly in perfect condition, and after stealing her bass and fifteen minutes of soldering her hot pink bass never sounded better. She didn’t realize what had happened until the downbeat of the rehearsal. She was pleased to say the least. After the rehearsal I asked her if she wanted me to replace the stock pickups, as she had no say in the entire process. She responded with an emphatic, “No!”. The premier performance of Pink Bass Player and her signature rig is on Thursday, February 18th 2016. Thank you so much for supplying this deserving young lady with the gear needed to take on the next big chapter of her life!

Given the fact there aren’t too many widely available hot pink bass guitar options out there, we took a guess that Pink Bass Player’s bass guitar was a Dean Custom Zone Bass, which is available with a fluorescent pink body and fingerboard. It doesn’t get any more pink than that on a bass. And yes, we were correct with our guess.

The model of bass isn’t important, however. What’s interesting here is that this is the first crowdfunded bass upgrade order that has ever come through Best Bass Gear. A bunch of people got together, all pitched, bought the P pickup upgrade (a Bartolini 8CBP, for those interested,) and everything worked out well.

Max from Best Bass Gear also added:

This was the most heart-felt pickup sale ever. Hearing how band mates would all chip in $5 to help a young bassist in need brought a tear to my jaded eye. I considered it a privilege to chip in $5 myself.

We do hope that Pink Bass Player has a bright future, and also keeps the Dean Custom Zone bass around. Why? Because it’s not the Bartolini pickup in the bass that makes the bass awesome. It’s the story of how that Bart pickup got in there. That’s the kind of mojo you just can’t buy. 🙂
