[Bass of the Week] Aeris A.D.P.

The feature bass for this week combines design cues from MusicMan, PRS and several personal touches.

Alden, the owner of this bass who had Aeris Guitars build the instrument for him, writes:

I was looking to purchase a new bass and wanted something different from my MusicMan that sounded and played just like it. Aeris guitars approached me about building what I want. Why buy another MusicMan when I have a great one? We sat down and started to build my dream bass. He used dimensions from my MusicMan and design cues from PRS and started to go from there. He found the woods and created a phenomenal instrument that as soon as I held it; I felt right at home. He used Black Walnut and maple to create the neck through and used alder for the body “wings”. Zebrawood was used for the top and back as well as the headstock, electronic covers and truss rod cover. Carving the top and back before staining in a burst pattern creating a beautiful finish that mirrors the excellent craftsmanship. He finished the neck with an ebony fingerboard, split with Stainless steel frets, and Mother of Pearl inlays and A.D.P. Then it was figuring out how to have this bass thunder when the strings are plucked.

Best Bass Gear helped me a lot with choosing the preamp and pickups. I used an Aguilar OBP3 active 18v preamp connected to 2 Nordstrand MM 4.4 pickups. The pickups are selected using the Free-Way 6 position toggle switch in conjunction with the blend knob from the preamp. 2 pushbutton switches allow for the pickups to be run in series or parallel individually, allowing for even more control of the sound. we used a Babicz full contact bridge and Carvin tuners to finish off the hardware.

This bass plays so well I was able to play my full set without having any issues the day it was finished with minimal playing time prior to it. The sound is enormous and clear. I have found a new go to bass. I would like to thank all the information that Best Bass Gear has at their disposal with helping me find the electronics I needed and wiring for them.
