Another month in the books here at e:Bass. It’s already the first of August and we’re flying through the summer months.
But let’s do a quick recap of what was happening around here during July in case you missed anything.
The incredible Jerome Little of Little Guitar Works blew us all away with his Twist on Bass Design, the ergonomic Torzal twist.
And we had Charles Mishalany Taking the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 on a Test Drive, gig testing the micro-amp and reporting back what he thought of it.
It was another month of incredible Bass of the Week submissions and we saw some great basses including Eric Lebowitz’s custom made Secial Fender MIM P Bass, Scot Copeland Custom 6-string, Rob’s Left-handed Warmoth Build and Francesco’s International Build.
We had a few laughs with some memes like this great one about Filling in on bass. And we welcomed our new customer rep Andy to the Best Bass Gear team.
There was some great new bass gear released this month. Tech 21’s new Bass Boost Fuzz brought dependable vintage tone, and Nordstrand had the era-correct 60’s NP4v pickups.
Plus we got in some new replacement necks at Best Bass Gear, and we were able to offer you guys a way to save on the EBS Stack with NAMM-used display cabs.
All in all it was great month in the bass community. Check out even more of what’s happening by checking our different sections. And if you like what you see and you’d like to see this kind of stuff in your email inbox, head over and sign up for our weekly e:Bass newsletter.

I’m fortunate egonuh to have been asked to record a live jazz performance in two weeks. It’s a five piece band playing jazz standards from the 40 s (one of the players actually played in big bands in the 40 s!!). In any case, I would usually try to mic each instrument separately, including micing each drum separately. I’m going to try to get a more open, natural sound on the drums by recording it with 2 mics one on the kick and one overhead the kit. I’m hoping this will give me a more natural sounding drum that is fitting with the style of music. Similarly, I plan on using one mic on the piano, rather than to mic it in stereo. I’ll still mic the bass, sax, guitar and vocal separately. The band is playing in an open dance hall so, I’m hoping to put a stereo pair in the room to get some room sound to blend in the final mix. Hope it comes out well, they’re really a nice group of people!
