See the business listing for this bass builder here

The feature bass this week is a custom 33″ headless build.

Builder Adam Falkner writes:

Earlier this year, I decided to make my first attempt at building a bass. With no real training, I looked to the internet machine to guide me and found tons of great info. Inspired by some dream basses I wish I had the money to afford, I decided to base the general idea on those and take it from there. I wanted a headless bass, but also wanted to try out a 33″ scale, which isn’t really easy to find. So that was even more reason to try it on my own.

When I happened upon a deal for the pickups and preamp (Status Graphite), I knew that was the catalyst for the build to begin.

Long story short, I managed to craft a pretty decent first attempt.
– Swamp ash body, finished in Tru Oil
– Flamed maple neck with graphite support rods, finished with Tru Oil
– Macassar Ebony fingerboard
– 33″ scale, 24 stainless frets, 19mm spacing
– ABM Headless hardware
– Status Graphite pickups and Board 303 3-band active preamp, 18V
– Aluminum black knobs
Dunlop Strap Locks
Ken Smith Strings

As soon as I was done, I knew it was just the beginning of my fascination with building. I’ve got plans in the works for the next one!

Well done!

  1. Excellent job–especially for your first time out of the gate! Did you get your ABM hardware from Status Graphite, or were you able to buy it elsewhere? I had been dealing with ABM in Germany, but they had some delivery issues that were not ideal.

Time to get started on the next one! 😉
