One of the best options of the NP4 pickup is that it is available with alnico III magnets. Alnico is not a company but rather a combination of three words that make up the magnet materials, ALuminum, NIckel, CObalt.
For modern bass tones, many players prefer the alnico V. But for “warmer” bass tones where the magnet pull isn’t as strong, alnico III is a very good choice.
If your ears tell you that alnico V magnets have too much treble and “boom” response and want something with less attack and a more manageable “punch” (meaning good delivery of midrange frequencies) that doesn’t require you to constantly adjust your tone knob, consider the NP4 with the alnico III magnet option.
