The Fender Precision® bass provided the big, round tone found in almost every hit song from the 60's. To create a pickup with that much vibe and feel, we studied the pickups from Aguilar President Dave Boonshoft's personal 1963 and 64 Precision basses.

The Aguilar 60's Era P-Bass Pickups use all the period correct parts, including Heavy Formvar wire and Alnico V magnets. These pickups have just the right amount of mid-range "nose" to cut through a loud rock band and give all the deep support one would expect from a great 60's P-bass pickup.

The AG 5P-60CL has a smaller cover and accepts a narrower, 17.5mm – 18.5mm string spacing.

AG 4P-60 Dimensions

  • Length = 2.230"(56.6mm) Width = 1.100"(27.9mm)

Please Note: Aguilar does not supply screws with their pickups. If you require some, we carry them on our pickup screws page.

Almost superior
By Will
The bobbins and wire on these have a wonderful original, vintage look and feel to them. Downright sexy, for those who appreciate the innards of old basses. The black plastic outer shells have a great look, texture, and feel. But the manufacturing of the shells is a bit shaky. The polepieces don't align perfectly with the bored holes in the shells. Some of the holes are bored oversize and the polepieces are not dead centered within the holes. There is a fair amount of flashing around the bottom edges of the shells that has to be trimmed off so the pickups can be fit into tight body routs or pickguard cutouts. Are these major drawbacks? No, but P Bass pickups with exposed polepieces are basic industry components that are manufactured universally. If China and Indonesia can routinely crank out inexpensive P pickups that have precisely made and finished shells, Aguilar ought to be able to do so as well. Hence 4 stars rather than 5. Otherwise, these are great pickups, and sound every bit as good as I had hoped. They provide a robust, full range passive signal if you're playing through pedals. Highly recommended. Aguilar just needs to tighten up the work on the outer shells to bring that detail up to the level of everything else.

Love the pickups!
By William
Love the pickups - and all my bandmates do as well. The screws were too big; used the old ones.
Oh, also the pickup holes in my old pickguard (c 1971) were a little too small to fit the pickups. Rather than file on the vintage pickguard, I got a new black one; looks sharp!!
