Control Configuration

  1. Volume (with Active/Passive push-pull)
  2. Blend
  3. Treble
  4. Mid (push/pull freq selector)
  5. Bass

A Pre-Wired harness saves the time and aggravation of wiring your pre-amp and pots into your instrument. They feature our industry leading pre-amps and premium audio-quality potentiometers with smooth control and ready for years of rugged use.

Bartolini preamps offer many popular configurations available for many control layouts. Tonally the Bartolini preamps are comparitively punchy in the low, low midrange, and midrange. The top end is 'note' bright. These units contain gain control which allows the user to set the signal to output level via a small trimpot on the module.

These preamps are not recommended for fitment in top routed Fender style instruments with the control cavity on the top. Intended to be used with an instrument with a rear control cavity.

*Modification Needed:

Bartolini preamps are built compatible for use with passive pickups such as Bartolini, Aguilar, Nordstrand, Delano, and other passive pickup manufacturers. If using active pickups preamp passive stage of Volume and Blend will need to use 25k pots. A single 9v battery is sufficient to power both active pickups and a Bartolini preamp simultaneously, but we recommend 2 9v wired for 18v if there is enough room inside the bass

Technical Specifications

  • Bass: +/-14db @ 30 HZ
  • Midrange: +/-10db @ 250, 500, 800 Hz. *Note: Mid P/P has 250 & 800Hz selections, Mid switch allows all three frequencies.
  • Treble: +/-16db @ 10 KHz

5.2 Preamp review
By James
I've used the 5.2 on the last to instruments. Both the 4 string with Bart soapbars and the 5 string with Bart P J really open up with this unit . A full spectrum of tonal adjustment.

fantastic, was a great improvement with mark 4's to a stock sr 500.haven't used the passive side much yet but the coil splitter on the mid is great live.i use the single coil for all the old rock and the humbucker for new stuff.the reason for making the change was i could not find a lighter bass than the sr500.for the cost of the pickups and pre amp i will play this bass anywhere all night and be very happy!!!

Great updated electronics from Bartolini!
By Mike
I have installed these in the past with good success, but the new preamps with sweepable mid and active / passive switch are more versatile and offer great tone selection. This is comparable to Aguilars and Sadowsky preamps I've used and it really worked well on my Lakland with a little tip from Max at BBG. They delivered great product, pricing, service and follow-up. I am buying another for my 4 string too!

Thumbs up
By Margo Peetsalu
Installed in a Ibanez SR505. It fitted well although I had to use existing jack, but that was no big deal. I've played with this preamp for three months now and I really like its' tone and character (both passive and active). What is more, a composer and keyboard player from one very good Estonian prog rock band from 70's came to me last week and asked "do I use some kind of pedals/processors to achieve such full sound?" I was really happy to tell him that this sound comes straight from my ax :)

Phenomenal tone, articulation and color
By Thomas Juehne
I installed the 5.2AP in a custom 7- string with Delano JSBC 7 HE narrow pickups (Thank you Max for your input). Range of tone, articulation and color is phenomenal. Preamp is prewired and limited in layout. I had to rearrange layout a bit to provide knob position in my design. Not a huge deal, but I wish there were a bit more slack in the wiring. I will be building a 4-string near future and will install same preamp. Very impressed.

Love this Preamp
By Will Rose
I bought this and installed on my MTD KZ6 bass and it pretty much dropped right in. Had to drill the holes for the volume and mid stacked pots out alittle but was very easy to do. I had to use my old input connector as well because what they give you prewired is for a front mounted application. Was very easy to change and i love that everything is prewired. No more adjusting from the amp this baby has all the tone range and gain you'll need.

Good Product
By Paul Dorado
Installed in a Pilot Pro V. Easy install, except the stacked, push/pull Midrange and Volume required a little drilling of the existing post holes. Also, the jack would not fit in the existing allowed space, which was no big deal; just used the existing jack. Nice preamp, the passive mode is cool, but note there is no tone control when using it. Definately will upgrade pickups next.
