Control Configuration

  1. Volume/Volume Stack
  2. Treble/Bass stack
  3. Mid (push-pull freq selector)

A Pre-Wired harness saves the time and aggravation of wiring your pre-amp and pots into your instrument. They feature our industry leading pre-amps and premium audio-quality potentiometers with smooth control and ready for years of rugged use.

Bartolini preamps offer many popular configurations available for many control layouts. Tonally the Bartolini preamps are comparitively punchy in the low, low midrange, and midrange. The top end is 'note' bright. These units contain gain control which allows the user to set the signal to output level via a small trimpot on the module.

These preamps are not recommended for fitment in top routed Fender style instruments with the control cavity on the top. Intended to be used with an instrument with a rear control cavity.

*Modification Needed:

Bartolini preamps are built compatible for use with passive pickups such as Bartolini, Aguilar, Nordstrand, Delano, and other passive pickup manufacturers. If using active pickups preamp passive stage of Volume and Blend will need to use 25k pots. A single 9v battery is sufficient to power both active pickups and a Bartolini preamp simultaneously, but we recommend 2 9v wired for 18v if there is enough room inside the bass

Technical Specifications

  • Bass: +/-14db @ 30 HZ
  • Midrange: +/-10db @ 250, 500, 800 Hz. *Note: Mid P/P has 250 & 800Hz selections, Mid switch allows all three frequencies.
  • Treble: +/-16db @ 10 KHz

Bartolini 3.4 preamp for Ibanez
By Derek Balonek
Well, my Ibanez preamp EQ was just awful, it was a single knob that was basically a mid cut. So I shopped around and picked this one up. It was the only 3-knob/3-band one I could find, and it's been working out good. The variable mids are nice, though I'd rather have had a sweepable mid control. Also, I needed to switch out the standard jack for a long-barrel one to get it to fit. Beyond all that, the delivery was prompt and smooth, and the preamp sounds great.

Bartolini Preamp 3.4
By Eoin McQuone
About the only 3 band eq for knobs I could find. Very easy to install (thanks Bassgear for your extrainstructions). Works very well - adds a nice depth of tone. Using 18v as I had clipping on 9v with my high output pups. Only issue is buzz from the neck pup when not touching the strings (more work to do on shielding I guess!). Bassgear service superb - very smooth and quick considering I am in UK.

Preamp for MTD Kingston Saratoga
By Adam Chin
I bought this pre-amp mainly on reputation, past experiences, and the knob configuration.

I wanted a stacked Volume/Volume, and anything else to basically have 3 knobs. Worked like a charm. I did have to make the knob holes larger to fit, and the 1/4" plug plate on the bass larger as well. Ultimately a versatile add to the MTD Kingston Saratoga. 9V good, and 18v isn't exactly required.
