Based on the Original 1970’s Bartolini HI-A design, the J44J L/S is the b-axis series Jazz Bass® ( J Bass® ) replacement pickup set with a ‘long’ for the bridge and a ‘short’ for the neck. This set is gaining the interest of highly respected musicians and luthiers alike for its huge punchy tone, precise articulation, rich harmonics and incredible versatility.

They feature a new fully encapsulated Alnico V exposed pole piece design. The b-axis series bass pickups with passive designs. They are cast in epoxy to remove unwanted feedback and microphonics.

100% Happy

I absolutely love these pickups. I put together a J-Bass from parts and used these pups w/ an Aguilar preamp. They have a great modern tone that punch you right in the balls. I'm actually going to remove the Aguilar preamp and go all passive, since I've left it in passive mode the last dozen gigs and it's been great I hope these pickups will become a permanent part of the Bartolini lineup because I know I will be buying a pair for the next bass I make.

Best jazz pickup I have ever tried
By Peter Greaves from on 8/31/2016
Hands down the best jazz pickup I have ever played. Not classic single coil, very modern sounding and punchy. I traded a bass for a Brubaker brute but have never quite got the sound I wanted. I put in an Audere pre-amp and a Reed James MM pickup and have tried a whole slew of Jazz pickups for the neck, Fender SC, Fender noiseless, Bartolini classic, Duncan SC,and most lately Sadowsky Noiseless. The Sadowsky was the best of the lot for what I needed, but this blew that away completely, and it is louder then the Reed James MM. I am not going to put a pair of these in my main jazz bass.

Incredible Jazz Bass Pickups.
By Stefan from on 7/15/2016
Clear, even sounding JB pickups that brings out the all of the harmonic complexity and growl of good Jazz Bass. The top end and low end clarity is great but it's the exceptional mid range clarity and punch that really set them apart from other JB PUPs that I've used. I put mine into a Fenders 50th anniversary jazz bass where they replaced DiMarzio Ultra Jazzes. The DiMarzios weren't bad but the Bartolini's bring out all of the qualities of this instrument in a new way. I play all sorts of music and these PUPs give me great, growly finger style tone from both pickups or combined, outstanding slap tone and it works great with my B7K to produce heavier distorted tones.

They look cool with their off set poles and they were very easy to install.
