Smooth, complex, and deep on my fretless, and even in the bridge position it has plenty of output to match the stacked J-style Carvin pickup in the neck position. I have been slowly putting Bartolini deep tones into all of my fretless basses! I would recommend them to anyone.

This pickup is very quiet and musical sounding. I have it installed on a Warmoth G4 type bass with an alder body and maple neck w/rosewood fingerboard. It's wired in a passive circuit with volume/tone controls only and a .047 cap. Solid, deep sounding and punchy. Does not quite retain the Stingray bass sound and tone, - more like a very high-fidelity Jazz bass with added "meat" to it. Well built and contemporary looking . . .
