Description

Scaling new heights in perfecting the tonal capabilities of magnetic pickups, the Delano Sonar bass preamp series is designed for just one purpose: Making a good tone even better.

As an integral part of any active bass guitar, an active EQ has to fulfill countless requirements regarding strength and clarity in tone, power consumption and installation. To meet this challenge perfectly, the time has come for a new onboard preamp: Sonar.

This smart powerhouse delivers the real thing: rocksteady bottom, cutting midrange and naturally brilliant high end. Whether adapting its tone to match the surrounding acoustics, enhancing versatility or increasing your musical expression, this preamp always feels like a natural extension, preserving all the benefits of passive operation: uncoloured, true and focused sound. Comparing the flat-set sound to bypassed full passive action you’ll detect no difference. Matchless. And with its perfectly matched band-pass filters and separated amplifier stages, adjustments stay predictable at any time without overpowering tone.

The Delano Sonar onboard preamp is housed in a sealed slim-box, which provides easy, space-saving installation and secure insulation to other electrical components. Its minimal power consumption lets you forget where your battery-box is - make a guess?

Please Note: SONAR preamps come with prewired tone pots. Volume Push/Pull & Blend Pot are enclosed.

Clear sound and natural!
By TJ

I have a Yamaha John Myung Signature, one of the first ones in transparent green. If you know much about these basses, they look nice but are pretty rough in design. It's always had an odd "ping" or "clatter" in the top end that drove me nuts. It became noticeably worse in a live situation. A few years back I replaced the bridge with a hipshot and new tuning pegs which believe it or not made a considerable difference in the sound over the stock pot metal parts. It still wasn't right though, and the current preamp was a large circuit board with the pots flow soldered onto it... Typical cheap Chinese crap. I finally decided to replace the preamp first before pickups and I have to say this preamp helped. It's very transparent and quiet. What I like about it most is if the EQ is flat, when switching from active to passive, there is no change in tone or volume. This was the first indicator of how poor the old preamp was. The natural sound of the bass passive with stock pickups is actually quite nice and musical, and the ping is gone. I have a 1995 Tobias Classic 6 and the Bartolini preamp has a passive/active switch. However, when the preamp is engaged, the sound get a bit "Glossy" or too pristine. The Delano doesn't which now has me thinking I may replace the preamp in that bass as well since I ALWAYS run it in passive mode. Compared to the Tobias with Bartolini electronics, swapping basses is a pleasure because both virtually the same output now. Before the Yamaha was hotter. I have to say I am really happy with this preamp, and considering what you can easily spend on one, the price was reasonable.

Delano Sonar is a great preamp
By Jake Parker

I have had my sonar for a couple of years now. I replaced the stock Bartolini preamp in my Ibanez BTB 6. I couldnt use this bass in a professional setting because the bass was boomy and uneven in sound and output throughout the range of the bass. I didnt even enjoy playing it although it is was the best feeling bass I owned. I had the Delano installed and instantly this bass sounded like the bass I always wanted it to be. The difference was absolutely incredible and just plain life changing. I am addicted to playing this bass now. I honestly never play any other bass anymore. Nothing sounds better than the Ibanez so I just dont settle for less than that. This preamp allowed the natural tone of the bass to come through and the Bartolini pickups finally shined.
