Great Bridge, crappy hardware
By John Baginsky
Just replaced the stock 38(!) year old Rick bridge on my 4001 with this Hipshot. The bridge did not change the sound of my Rickenbacker, but for the first time in its life the intonation is perfect, and the string height is where I like it to be. I replaced the original bridge because of "tail-lift"...the only problem I encountered with this project is the screws that are provided with the bridge are garbage. The screws are longer than the original Rickenbacker screws. I neglected to drill the holes deeper, because after all I was screwing them in wood, using a hand screwdriver, well of course the first screw snapped in half when it met the smallest amount of resistance. So drill your holes deeper or use better screws. If it weren't for the cheap screws this would have been a 5 star review.

A major improvement
By Christopher Brockway
Bridging the past with the present, Hipshot has designed a major upgrade for the Rickenbacker 4001/4003 bass. This new bridge allows total individual string control which was previously unavailable with the stock model. You can now move each string up/down, side to side or back to front without affecting the positioning of the other strings. Why Rickenbacker never moved to make this engineering adjustment after all of this time makes you wonder, but here it is at long last. I purchased the brass model and found it retained the original Ric tone while adding sustain across the neck that was absent previously. The brass model adds some extra weight to my 4003 but it is negligible and that small trade-off seems worth it. Installation was easy and no extra holes had to be drilled or the bass changed in any respect, allowing for return to the stock bridge should the player decide to do so. I highly recommend this bridge as I do Joe Barden R4000 pickups as major upgrades (review for another time). Together they make the bass of my dreams a total dream bass.

Hipshot Rickenbacker Bridge
By Randy Lee
The bottom end is tighter and has improved but the characteristic Ric tone of the ringing sustain had changed slightly. The playability has improved vastly with the individual saddle height adjustment. However, the G String saddle rattled when I played very close to the saddle and hard(about 1 inch from the saddle). It did not rattle when played at a position further away. Overall, I prefer this Hipshot bridge over the stock bridge. The only minus is the change in the Ric tone.
